How badges work and how each stage is earned, plus setting up Send to camera on Windows.

About badges

What are badges?

Badges celebrate milestones as you share recipes with the community: publishing, making recipes other people love, and making them easy to try. They're awarded automatically; there's nothing to claim.

Where do my badges show up?

All of your badges appear on your public creator page and in My Recipes, where you can also see your progress towards the next ones. Next to your name on recipe and collection cards, we show a small icon for your top badge only. First light isn't shown there, since nearly every creator has it.

Do private recipes count?

No. Badges only count your public recipes and public collections, because they reflect what you've shared with others. Your private drafts stay private and don't affect your badges.

Can I lose a badge?

Yes. Badges are worked out from your current public work every time they're shown. If you make recipes private or delete them, or a recipe loses favorites, a badge can drop back a stage or disappear until you earn it again.

What makes a recipe “Complete”?

A complete recipe has a cover photo, at least 3 sample photos and at least one tag. That's enough for someone to judge the look before they try it. In My Recipes, each recipe shows what it still needs.

What do the colours and stars mean?

Badges with several stages go from bronze to silver to gold. The icon changes colour and gains a star at each stage: ★ for Bronze, ★★ for Silver and ★★★ for Gold. Single-stage badges have no stars.

Sending recipes to your camera on Windows

When you plug in a Fujifilm camera, Windows gives it its own camera driver so it shows up in File Explorer and Photos. That driver keeps the camera to itself, so your browser can see the camera but can't open it. Send to camera then fails with “Access denied”. Mac, Linux, ChromeOS and Android don't need this step.

The fix is a one-time switch of the camera to Windows' generic WinUSB driver, which browsers are allowed to use:

  1. Download Zadig, a free, widely used tool for setting USB drivers. It runs without installing.
  2. On the camera, set the USB connection mode to USB RAW CONV. / BACKUP RESTORE, the same mode you use to send recipes. Connect it to the PC with a USB cable and switch it on.
  3. Open Zadig and choose Options → List All Devices.
  4. In the device list, pick your Fujifilm camera. It may be listed by model name or as USB PTP Camera; the USB ID next to it starts with 04CB.
  5. Make sure the driver on the right of the green arrow says WinUSB, then click Replace Driver and wait for it to finish.
  6. Unplug the camera and plug it back in, then try Send to camera again. You only need to do this once per camera on each PC.

Good to know

  • Windows allows only one driver per camera. While the camera uses WinUSB, apps that need Windows' own camera driver won't see it over USB: FUJIFILM X RAW Studio, X Acquire, File Explorer and Photos. Copying photos with a card reader isn't affected.
  • Still seeing “Access denied” after the switch? Close any app that might be using the camera (X Acquire, X Webcam, X RAW Studio, Lightroom tethering), then reconnect it.

Switching between ForgeFilm and X RAW Studio

Once you've run Zadig, both drivers stay installed, so you can flip between them in Device Manager in a few seconds, with no need for Zadig again:

  1. Connect the camera in USB RAW CONV. / BACKUP RESTORE mode and switch it on.
  2. Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager. The camera is under Universal Serial Bus devices while it's on WinUSB, or under Portable Devices while it's on Windows' own driver.
  3. Right-click the camera and choose Update driver, then Browse my computer for drivers, then Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  4. Pick MTP USB Device to switch back to Windows' camera driver for X RAW Studio, X Acquire and Explorer, or WinUSB Device to use Send to camera. Click Next.
  5. Unplug the camera and plug it back in.

Going back to Windows' driver for good

If MTP USB Device isn't in the list, or you want to remove the WinUSB change entirely: with the camera connected, open Device Manager, right-click the camera and choose Uninstall device. Tick Attempt to remove the driver for this device (on older Windows: Delete the driver software for this device), click Uninstall, then unplug and reconnect the camera. Windows sets it up with its own camera driver again, as if it were plugged in for the first time.
